Size guide off for this belt

Looked at size guide. XL says it will fit a waist 40 to 46 inches. I have a 44 inch waist and the very tip of the belt doesnt even touch the buckle. The belt is around 44 inches long, but will definitely not buckle around a 44 inch waist. Wish the size guide was accurate, the belt is very cute and good quality.
