This week’s Muse is a special one! Today, meet Katherine Plumb, aka KJP! Katherine’s the artist behind your favorite prints, and the artist we collaborated with to create our Holiday 2020 collection. As we prepare to restock our co-designed cult favorites, we wanted to give our community a chance to learn more about KJP’s design process, her inspirations, and show you how she styles her LSG x KJP pieces at home in Stockholm.

 

 

LSG: Hi Katherine! Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who you are, where you’re from, and what you do.

KJP: I'm Katherine Jean Plumb aka KJP, and I'm from a small town in the south of England. Three years ago I moved to Stockholm, Sweden after living in London for around six years, and I've been a full time textile designer/artist ever since!

LSG: Tell us a little bit about how you became interested in print design.

KJP: I've loved working with textiles for as long as I can remember—my mum worked in a fabric shop, so I spent a lot of time there after school and learnt how to sew, knit etc. I applied to study at Central Saint Martins when I was 18, and studied textile design, then specialised in print. That’s where I fell in love with print and learned to screen print and make repeating patterns by hand.

 

 

LSG: When and how did you decide to start making your own merchandise featuring your art?

KJP: After graduating, I joined a print studio in London so that I could print on the side while working in hospitality. At first I was making things for myself, but couldn't justify paying for the studio if I didn't at least try to sell my work, so I set up an online store and sold at local design markets. I never intended it to be a full time thing, but when I moved to Stockholm with my boyfriend, I couldn't find anywhere to screen print—that’s when I decided to set up a print studio and go full time.

LSG: Tell us about the opportunity to work with Lisa Says Gah! on a print collaboration, and seeing your prints on full clothing pieces for the first time?

KJP: I was already super happy that you wanted to stock my products, and I couldn't say yes fast enough when the opportunity to collaborate arose. My background is solely in print design, so it's been a massive learning curve to see my patterns on such a wide range of garments and products, and I love that they're made in California. I've been so overwhelmed by the response from your customers too, and I'm just glad everyone loves the pieces as much as we do.

 

 

LSG: Lastly, tell us your favorite piece from the KJP x LSG Holiday 2020 collab!

KJP: It's so hard to choose, but I think maybe the Bailey Green Pyjamas? I think the sign of a good pyjama is if I don't mind being seen in them when I take the dog out first thing, and I'll be wearing these out every morning come Spring.
